Rapa das Bestas, Shearing of the Beasts, Sabucedo, Pontevedra. Yesterday.

Ancient tradition (going back to the bronze age) where wild horses are round up and put in the arena and are caught  and immobilised by ”Aloitadores”. . By hand, no rope allowed. Following that, the horses’ manes and tails are cut and the horses are de-parasited.

The people who take part in this tradition are all from the same village.

Galicia has one of the largest populations of wild horses in the world.

It is honestly one of the most impressive things I’ve ever seen in my entire life.

Not man against beast, but man (and woman) very much at one with the beast.

Magical.
